App new release: v1.10 - Traceroute History

Today we are releasing version 1.10 of the App. The new release is available on the App Store, Google Play and Web App.

Traceroute History

Traceroutes are used in IP Networks to show the route path from a source to a destination. With traceroutes, users can see the different routers (called Hops) and the latency and packet loss between each of them. This can help identify where the issue is located. Also, inside the traceroute, the Reverse DNS names of the routers can give a good idea of the service provider and the city for each of them.

One thing missing in IT pros toolbox is traceroutes history and reverse traceroutes. It's easy to look at a traceroute when there is an issue but what was it when everything was working fine? Did the route change? What were the services providers, cities and latencies involved when it was working fine?

And did you know that IP traffic is usually asymmetrical? This means that the route path from source to destination is usually not the same than from destination to source. This is where reverse traceroutes (from destination to source) comes into play. This way, users have bi-directionnal traceroutes to troubleshoot faster and more efficiently.

The Traceroute History feature is automatically enabled on all the network monitoring sessions configured in the Obkio App. Every 10 minutes, the agents will execute the traceroute and send the results to the cloud. The results are available in each network performance monitoring session detail page.
